Rietveld is mentioned in the Naam-boekje van de wel ed. heeren der hooge Indiasche regeringe [...] op Batavia [...] zoo als dezelve anno primo may 1767. in wezen zyn bevonden. P. Schouten [and] R. Ottens [booksellers], 1768. His position is that of operhoofd (head) and onderkooplieden (under-merchant) at Hooghly in 1765. He is listed in earlier directories of the VOC as well, showing his rise in career, in the same way as most other VOC officials in Bengal.
