Rules (dcterms:instructionalMethod)
Basic Rules:-
1. Each team begins on the opposite ends of the board. All members of a team play their turn before the second team gets a chance.
2. Route for movement is shown in image 2 & movement is based on the shell count.
3. Shell count of 1 (Da) is required to start a pawn onto the starting square. During a turn any team member can move a pawn except those who havent got a Da.
4. The opponent's pawn is cut when the player's pawn lands on the same square.
.The coloured squares are safe places and no pawns present here can be cut.
Winning: The team that bears off all their pawns from the winning square first, wins the game.
For Extra Turns:-
For a throw of 1 or 10, the player gets an extra turn.
When a player cuts an opponent's pawn, the player gets an extra turn. During an extra turn, either the same pawn or some other pawn can be played.
Additional: Both teams can carry an additional pawn-nakta, which travels similar to the other pawns, but if it gets killed, then all other pawns of that player start the race all over again.
For a better understanding of the rules the movement of the shells are also important to note:-
1 light side up-1 count; Da & extra turn
2 light sides up - 2 counts; Du
3 light sides up - 3 counts;
4 light sides up - 4 counts;
5. A player needs to cut the opponent's pawn in order to move pawns into the home stretch (depicted in the figure). The cut pawn are returned to the starting home square and start the race all over again
6. Opponent pawns cannot land on an occupied safe square.
Note: If a player has cut once, all the pawns can move into the home stretch of the game board. It is not necessary for every pawn to cut an opponent's pawn.
There is no limit for a player to cut opponents' pawns.
5 light sides up - 10 counts; extra turn:
no light sides up - miss a turn
